TRIPLE FOR HATCH SILKS Penabud Background and Shepherd Boy Win at Long Branch Trainers Share Honors TORONTO Ont June 11 The silks of Harry C Hatch local owner were much in evidence on the semifinal day of the Long Branch Jockey Club meeting at the Lake Shore course on Tuesday when members of his stable combined for a triple in the light and dark blue silks two of which were saddled by L Gentry and the other by W H Bringloe Those to account for premier honors in their respective outings were Penabud Background and Shepherd Boy the latter culminating the trio of vic ¬ tories by accounting for the fifth race a sprint of six furlongs that brought out the bestfield to sport colors during the after ¬ noon for which a series of claiming events were run off for a rather large attendance attendanceIn In completing the triple for the Hatch barn Shepherd Boy defeated five other me ¬ dium grade sprinters and his triumph came after he withstood a long stretch drive to receive a nose decision over J S Blacks Plain B en This was the fifth race and after a delay of several minutes a poor start came with Plain Ben getting the best of the break when he left in full stride while Baydrop Bud Royal and Shoeless Joe left so slowly that they were soon far back backPlain Plain Ben with his quick beginning stepped out to set a swift pace while the eventual winner was following close up and just before Bud Royal which was sent up with a rush by C W Smith SmithReaching Reaching the stretch there was a general closing up the exception being Shoeless Joe who was tagging along in last position Shepherd Boy responded nicely to the urg ¬ ing of Young and in a bitterly waged finish dropped his nose down at the opportune moment to receive the verdict As the two reached the finish they were a length be ¬ fore Feudal Lord with Baydrop five lengths farther back backJockey Jockey S Young rode Penabud and Shep ¬ herd Boy while H Peden was astride Back ¬ ground the other successful Hatch per ¬ former and the riding of both lads were contributing factors in the triple score
