MOUNT ROYAL OPENS TODAY Second Montreal Meeting Begins With Attractive Offerings Han ¬ dicap Heads Inaugural Card MONTREAL Que June 13 With th opening of the Mount Royal course of the Back River Jockey Club for fourteen day the second meeting in the vicinity of Mont real gets under way for the season of 1935 Many new arrivals from Rockingham Park have filled the stables of Mount Royal and Kings Park which is just opposite across Decarrie Boulevard to capacity included in the shipment are representatives of such prominent owners as B F Christmas U N Hughes G Hamilton L Smith and O L Foster FosterMuch Much of the success that attended th meeting at Blue Bonnets is expected to mark the opening at Mount Royal Secre tary of the course Marty Schenker has been engaged for more than two weeks preparing for the opening and the plant is at its best with the track in the best of condition havr ing been worked from early spring and track superintendent Walter Louth has the shrubbery and plants in the infield in full bloom many of which have been added since the close of last season Racing secretary Julius Reeder has ar ranged a splendid card for the opening topped by the Mount Royal Handicap In which nine are carded to start Miss K Lauras Eldee which swept all opposition before her at Blue Bonnets has been allotted top weight of 115 pounds Waterway rac ¬ ing for B Cole and making his first start of the season is next in line with 108 pounds Mint Jake an easy winner in his last ap ¬ pearance and Pace have been allotted 106 pounds Whitharral is asked to shoulder 104 pounds while Bonnie Marita Tartan Betsy and Golden Princess have 104 pounds Leo D the threeyearold homebred of L Dan durand is the lightweight of the race witK 103 pounds Many of the above have been consistent winners of late and a keen and interesting contest should develop developSupporting Supporting the feature are four sprint numbers and two distance affairs the first event over five and a half furlongs has at ¬ tracted a limit field and from which two were excluded The second number is for juveniles and nine of the best youngsters here are entered
