OPENING AT LOUISVILLE Famous Kentucky Track in Spic and Span Condition Twelve Named Overnight for 10000 Clark Handicap Ken ¬ tucky Derby One Week Away LOUISVILLE Ky April 30 Churchill Downs Americas most famous course and the scene on May 8 of its premier horse race the Kentucky Derby opens its portals for its sixtythird consecutive spring season to ¬ morrow and scheduled to run nineteen days promises one of the outstanding meetings of the year yearThe The 50000 Derby run every year since the track was opened in 1875 will be the pin ¬ nacle event of the meeting but at least three other important stakes the Clark Handicap Bashford Manor Stakes and Kentucky Oaks also will be renewed during the nineteen days Judging from the calibre of horses on the grounds and ready to race patrons here will see many of the outstanding thorough ¬ breds in America in competition competitionThe The Clark Handicap worth 10000 in added money and to be contested by three yearolds and over at a mile and a sixteenth will be run tomorrow afternoon while the 5000 Bashford Manor a dash of five fur ¬ longs for twoyearolds is scheduled for next Wednesday The Derby follows a week from tomorrow and then at the Downs and at Douglas Park right now are taxed to near capacity The only stalls vacant are those being reserved for Ken ¬ tucky Derby candidates which have not yet arrived on the scene Included
