JAMAICA RETURNS SHOW SHOWINCREASE INCREASE OVER LAST YEAR NEW YORK N Y April 30 The strides that racing has made since the sport was legalized by the state have been more than gratifying as demonstrated in the attendance and gate receipt figures released yesterday by the New York State Racing Commission for the first nine days of the Jamaica meet ¬ ing The paid attendance saw 10836 more people in the first nine days in 1937 against figures compiled for the first ten days in 1936 The net attendance was 10494 more than last year The association received 2333220 more in its gate receipts between the 13002800 for ten days in 1936 and 153 36020 for nine days in 1937 The service charge on complimentary tickets was in ¬ creased by 660 660The The tax paid the state was naturally in ¬ creased by this general prosperity Last year for the ten day period the state received 2160756 against 2597574 for one day less this year an increase of 436818 436818When When these figures are compared with those of 1935 the marked increases are an overwhelming indication of the popularity of the sport
