PRM SURPRISES Takes Best Offering of Jamaica Rather Ordinary Friday Program Bagpipe and Townsman Fail and Disappoint Backers Large Crowd Suffers by Drop in Temperature NEW YORK N Y April 30 Roy Wal dron sent out a good colt in the best offer ¬ ing at the Metropolitan Jockey Club at Jamaica yesterday when he saddled Orient I Express for Airs C Oliver Isclin It was j six furlongs dash and the son of Genie carried Townsman along until he made him j quit and came on to withstand a belated rush from William Woodwards Fore Third I went to No Dice from the Silver State Sta j ble and C V Whitneys Bagpipe the favbr i ite finished fourth fourthj j It was a featureless card that was offered for the afternoon with cheap horses pre ¬ dominating but some good sport resulted There was another drop in temperature that j made conditions uncomfortable but again a large crowd was out to shiver through the afternoon In the best offering it was generally agreed agreedI I that the race lay between Bagpipe and andTownsman Townsman and the utter defeat of both was wassomething something of a shock to the players From Froma a good start Orient Express went right into intothe the lead and Townsman raced after him himSun Sun Chaucer was running third and then came Bagpipe while Fore was slow to be bej j under way being last from the stalls stallsNOT NOT EQUAL TO TASK TASKTownsman Townsman hung right to Orient Express Expressi i but when Wright moved with him Biermah BiermahI I also called on the Genie colt and he heid to tohis his lead This effort to run him down saw sawthe the Widener gelding beaten at the head of ofthe the stretch and from there to the finish he hecontinued continued to drop back badly Fore had hadmoved moved into third place as Townsman tired tiredand and No Dice began to improve his position positionWorkman Workman had Bagpipe under a drive in a vain effort to improve his position and a furlong out it was apparent he would have no share in the purse Fore made a gallant effort when he drew up steadily on Orient Express but Mrs Iselins gelding was show ¬ ing his best form and he stood off this de ¬ termined challenge to be the winner by a length lengthFore Fore had beaten No Dice a length and a half for second place and Bagpipe was three lengths farther away awayThe The start had considerable to do with the finish of the opening five furlongs dash for plater juveniles when Cleaveland Putnams Wacky Jack left running and was never headed Mrs Ethel D Jacobs Gert B raced to the place and Mrs George D Wideners Early Evening took third from Sparkling The only other starter was Renege which after causing a delay by his bad actions broke slowly and was always outrun outrunZEVWEE ZEVWEE IN FRONT i iMaidens Maidens of the plater variety met in the mile and seventy yards of the second and it went to John Englishs Zevwee with Thomas Murphys Money Muddle taking sec ¬ ond place from Myron Selznicks Roller Coaster and Glassy Eye was fourth There were several bad actors in the big field that brought a long delay with Post Meridian ban ¬ ished to a position outside the stalls before an alignment was possible After disappointing with the favorite Gert B in the opening race Tlirsch Jacobs came back with a winning favorite in the third when he saddled Grand Jester The son of Distraction scored with something to spare over Busy K which races for P Dale Watts and Mrs Lillian Byers Addis was a distant third before Buddies HEAL HIDING SKILL Little Hubert Le Blanc showed real riding skill when he brought Mrs W E Martins Veiled Lady home winner of the fifth race at a mile and seventy yards for cheap ones By a perfectly timed run through the stretch he landed the daughter of Neddie winner by a head over John E Kenneys Inactive and another length away Phil Biebers Peaceful took third from Miss Dignity DignityBlack Black Witch was particularly unfortunate at the break in this and Chrysmute was an ¬ other that was off badly At the end of the card another of the Jacobs favorites offended when in a mile and a furlong gallop old Espinaca after leading until well into the stretch gave way to Splash Along to lose by a neck Well back of the old son of Epinard third was the portion of Chief Mourner and Wilco was fourth
