E Denemark stable a half length lengthGrand Grand Play disappointing choice of the contest that engaged a field of seven was just a neck back in third position to lead home Triple Action Lady Maryland Gold Band and Moon Harvest the only others that were under silks The winner ridden by jockey C Rosengarten scored unexpect ¬ edly but his claim to the verdict was clearly earned and he was considerably the best of the party when he finished the distance in lt3 after losing a great deal of ground in the running runningBELOW BELOW USUAL STANDARD STANDARDFor I For the second day of the with Gold Band a distance back to lead Trifle Action Leaving the far side of the track S Renick drove Grand Play to the front and there was a cheer from his backers backersBY BY HALF LENGTH LENGTHGrand Grand Play however was unable to get free as he remained close to the inside and before the final furlong pole was reached was engaged by Carnarvon and Prairie Dog In the final furlong with the ultimate win ¬ ner far on the outside In a straining finish Carnarvon proved master to score by a half length lengthMaiden Maiden twoyearold fillies furnished the contention for the opening event of the after ¬ noon at a half mile and it saw Briar Plume a firsttime starter from the Mrs W W Vaughan stable racing up to expectations to defeat her eight rivals Installed the choice on the strength of advance notices and good trials in private the daughter of Sun Briar overcame misfortune in the run ¬ ning to account for the race in a thrilling drive She defeated Skipper from the W F Hitt stable also a firsttime starter by a half length while three lengths away Micro captured third barely beating Mobcap for that share of the spoils spoilsTOWSON TOWSON STEEPLECHASE STEEPLECHASEOf Of the twelve starters in the two miles of the Towson Steeplechase under claiming conditions listed second on the card all but three of the contestants finished the long journey with three rank lengths over Syriac from the M H Beams Jr barn while Promoter starting for the third time over fences was third in the field of limit proportions The disappointment here was the failure of Thomas Hitchcocks Prattler which fell at the final fence after leading the large field for more than a turn of the course Others to become eliminated were Lord Johnson which threw H Clements at the first fence and Flying Feathers which unseated J McGovern at the tenth jump jumpTITAN TITAN KIDDIE SCORES SCORESOlder Older plater sprinters from the homebred ranks and of cheap grade met in the third race
