ASSURED OF CRACK FIELD Latonia Derby Now Occupying Col Matt Winns Attention Trainers Conway and Clarke Nominate NominateCharges Charges for Covington Fixture Oaks to Be Renewed LOUISVILLE Ky May 13 With the Kentucky Derby a most successful renewal and the Churchill Downs meeting running smoothly as it nears the halfway point Col Matt J Winn who also directs the destinies of the picturesque Latonia track now is turning his attention to affairs at the Covington course where a meeting of thirty seven days opens on Saturday May 29 29Occupying Occupying Colonel Winns principal at ¬ tention at this time is the 15000 added Latonia Derby to be run on June 12 and the other added money fixtures to be de ¬ cided during the session Nominations to all these events closed at midnight last night and while a number of entries still are in the mail the features are believed to have been subscribed to liberally liberallyAlready Already there are assurances that the Latonia Derby which like the Kentucky Derby is decided over a mile and a quarter will attract a representative field that will include virtually all of the western horses that took part in the Kentucky Derby and possibly a few invaders from other sec ¬ tions tionsBefore Before leaving here for Maryland George Conway trainer of Samuel D Riddles War Admiral and C F Clarke conditioner of J H Louchheims Pompoon winner and runnerup in the Churchill Downs classic nominated these stars for the Latonia special specialRacing Racing secretary William H Shelleys copy for the first issue of the Latonia con ¬ dition book already is in the hands of the printer and probably will be ready for dis ¬ tribution within a few days daysIn In addition to the Derby stakes to be renewed include the 5000 added Latonia Oaks for threeyearold fillies the Clipsetta Stakes for twoyearold fillies the Cincin ¬ nati Trophy for twoyearold colts and geld ¬ ings and the following for threeyearolds and upward The Inaugural Handicap the Quickstep Handicap the Independence Handicap and the Enquirer Handicap
