PHOTOGRAPH DECIDES FINISH Par Accounts for Hollis Claiming Stakes at Belmont Park Gold Mesh and Knowing Closely Lapped on onJackson Jackson Bacer Dead Heat in inthe the Fifth Bace NEW YORK N Y May 13 In a fin ¬ ish that called for a photograph Hugh W Jacksons Par was winner of the Hollis Claiming Stakes at Belmont Park today Closely lapped on the son of Sickle as he crossed the line were Mrs William Ziegler Jrs Gold Mesh and Mrs C Oliver Iselins Knowing while Mrs Ethel D Jacobs Micro ¬ phone favorite was a distant fourth The six furlongs dash through the Widener course carried a net value of 3275 to the winner and the winner was capably ridden by Lester Balaski BalaskiWith With springlike weather though there was a threat of rain all afternoon a big crowd was out and excellent sport came out of what was offered by the Westchester Association AssociationGOOD GOOD STABT STABTThe The nine that went to the post were off to a good start with little delay at the stalls and old Microphone always an alert horse was first to show He was closely attended by Gold Mesh Upside Down and Knowing and they were all racing in the middle of the course The son of Flying Ebony was unable to draw away from the fast ones that bore him company and approaching the final furlong it was Knowing that was show ¬ ing his head in front but Par was coming with a great rush along the inside rail and Gold Mesh was hanging on gamely gamelyThus Thus it was that three drew away in the final sixteenth and Par proved gamest when it was his nose that the camera caught at the line and Gold Mesh had barely landed second place from Knowing Microphone had tired so badly he was three lengths back and just a length and a half before Upside Down DownThere There was a dead heat in the Delhi Hand ¬ icap over six furlongs of the main course Felix Spatolas Wise Prince the favorite and William Ziegler Jrs Zostera crossed the line so closely lapped that the photo ¬ graph did not separate them Well back of the pair John Simonettis Sgt Byrne was a length before Cycle CycleFAST FAST PACE PACEThe The pace in this was a sizzling one when Fitter carried Wise Prince along for a first quarter in 22 and the half in 45 That took care of Fitter but it had also cost Wise Prince a big effort while Cycle which fol ¬ lowed the pair of them was also used up in such a pace paceZostera Zostera could not go with such speed and that enabled him to earn a dead heat Sgt Byrne had moved up on the stretch turn but he made his move too soon soonFly Fly Me a juvenile daughter of Flying Ebony and Ma Mie which Mrs Ethel D Jacobs purchased from William Ziegler Jr proved best of the maidens of the plater variety which raced in the four and a half furlongs of the opening race Ridden by Wayne Wright and carrying four and a half pounds overweight which brought her impost to 114 12 pounds she scored over G N W McNaughtons Noble Scot and Hejmor from the Paragon Stable was an easy third MAIDEN STEEPLECHASERS STEEPLECHASERSThe The steeplechase of the day was fashioned for maidens and was run over the short coiirse It was won easily by F Ambrose Clarks London Town capably ridden by Bellhouse Galsac from the Greentree Sta ¬ ble and making his first appearance in the steeplechase field took second place as easily from Thomas Hitchcocks Yemasee and Stephen Sanfords Trajan Pass was a distant fourth with William B Streetts Hedric the only other to finish Far and Fast a sta ¬ blemate to Galsac while racing close to the pace bolted around the inside wing of the third fence and was eliminated eliminatedWayne Wayne Wright brought home his second winner and was winning pilot in both ends of the dash for maiden juveniles when he scored with George D Wideners Jacksaw in the third race The son of Jack High and Yankee Princess performed in a fashion to suggest his being worth every dollar of the 2000 for which he was entered to be sold The finish for the place required a photo ¬ graph to determine that Blue Sheets had nosed out Whoa Boy Idolize was a distant fourth
