PIMLICO TURF NOTES The boxes as is always the case on Freak ness Day were jammed to capacity Among those so seated were assistant postmaster general W W Haus J Edgar Hoover Jerry Louchheim William DuPont L Stanley Kahn Mr and Mrs Walter M Jeffords Mrs Marian DuPont Scott Mr and Mrs Samuel D Riddle William Woodward Mr and Mrs John Hay Whitney A C Bost wick Admiral Gary Grayson Jouett Shouse Henry Horkheimer and Ral Parr ParrRoy Roy Carruthers general manager of the Arlington Park Jockey Club and Charles McLennan racing secretary for that organi ¬ zation were in the Preakness crowd They combined business with pleasure using much of their time in interesting horsemen in the numerous stakes for that fiveweek meeting meetingMany Many fine comments were heard on the service rendered by the Harry M Stevens organization which had the catering privi ¬ lege at Pimlico for the first time during the present meeting A new modern lunch room was installed underneath the grandstand which filled a longfelt want Joe Stevens was in charge of the Pimlico branch of the organization organizationAdmiral Admiral Gary T Grayson has as his Preakness guest the Viscount De Rouge secretary general of the League of Red Cross of the World embracing sixtytwo countries The Viscounts father owned Chanticler a winner of the Epsom Derby DerbyJockeys Jockeys George Woolf Wayne Wright Harry Richards and J Westrope arrived from various sections of the racing map to accept mounts in the Preakness Stakes All returned to their destinations after ful ¬ filling engagementsAdvance their engagements Advance betting on the Preakness Stakes was begun at 11 a m and booths remained open until the fifth race With the close of the booths all sales were calculated and in ¬ cluded in the early total when the regular betting obtained obtainedMutuel Mutuel department director Mortimer M Mahoney had a crew consisting of 127 sellers and 135 cashiers on duty Preakness Day Four divisions were in operation which in ¬ cluded the main j avillion clubhouse lower grandstand center field and paddock
