Way Farms of Mrs Ethel V Mars Chicago racing patron provided the winner of the sixtythird Kentucky Oaks at Churchill Downs this afternoon when Mars Shield turned back eight other threeyearold fillies in the timehonored fixture which was de ¬ cided over a mile and a furlong The daugh ¬ ter of Diavolo and Escutcheon raced past the entire field in the last half mile to win by three lengths and earn 4590 which rep ¬ resented first money and a beautiful silver trophy which Samuel Culbertson a director of Churchill Downs presented to Robert McGarvey trainer of the Milky Way filly fillySecond Second to complete the nine furlongs which the winner negotiated over a good track in 153 was Mrs A B Letelliers Shatterproof with third money going to A C Ernsts Alkit James W Parrishs Miney was fourth and hardearned victory in another of the supporting contests the Elizabethtbwn Handicap at seven furlongs Ridden by Al ¬ fred Robertson the imported fouryearold took the lead from Cardarrone on the stretch turn and withstood the challenge of the fa ¬ vorite Giant Killer to win by a length and a quarter Giant Killer also moved up on the turn to reach his contending position and though he could make no appreciable gains on the winner was easily best of the others leading the third horse Professor Paul under the wire by four lengths Car ¬ darrone finished fourth with Sunset Trail n a VICTORYJames James W Parrishs Knee Deep scored a popular victory in the second race a dash of four and a half furlongs for twoyear old maidens but the result was made official over the protest of jockey H Dabson who was astride the third horse Bryonin Knee Deep probably much the best swerved out badly turning into the stretch and later swerved back over to the inside and Dabson claimed he was forced to ease his mount Knee Deeps winning margin was a length while Commission beat Bryonin a similar margin for second place Top Billing was best of the others including Quick Getaway which after
