MACDONNELt NAMED STEWARD Boxing Commissioner Appointed to toRepresent Represent State at Detroit Fair FairGrounds Grounds Others Retained LOUISVILLE Ky May 15 Edward J Fry Michigans newly appointed racing commissioner recently confirmed the ap ¬ pointment of Frank MacDonnell JMichigan boxing commissionerantf former Detroit newspaperman as steward to represent the stateduring the meeting of the Detroit Rac ¬ ing Association which opens May 28 at the Detroit Fair Grounds GroundsMacDonnell MacDonnell will succeed Jack S Young the Lexington Ky turfman who has served as Michigans representative in the stewards stand for three years Young i to be re ¬ tained as steward by the associatipn replac ¬ ing president Clarence E Lehr who served as a steward last year yearMacDonnell MacDonnell who will be the first citizen of Michigan to be named as the represen ¬ tative steward of his state was appointed to the post two weeks ago by the retiring racing commissioner Joseph D Frost sub ¬ ject to the approval of Governor Frank Mur ¬ phy and the incoming commissioner He declared MacDonnell was the only qualified citizen of the state who had become avail ¬ able for the position during his tenure of office officeFry Fry also announced that William J Dow ing assistant commissioner and Roger L Hanrahan registrar would be retained on his staff while Richard Sauter a clerk on the staff through three administrations would be advanced to an assistant commis sionership replacing Percy Moore of Mount demons
