MAEWHISK NEVER HEADED IN NAPERVILLE PURSE CASTILLEJIDES WELL Fair Haste Slight Favorite Over the Winner but Runs Second Close Finishes and Surprises Keep KeepSportsmans Sportsmans Park Spectators Spectatorson on Edge Weather Fair CICERO Bl Oct 25 Dan Hardys Mae whisk was never headed over the mile and seventy yards in the Naperville Purse a contest which brought out seven twoyear olds and which topped todays program at Sportsmans Park Jockey Delpha Castillo rated his mount well in advance of his rivals in the early furlongs and then had enough left in the drive to win with a length and a half to spare spareAt At several stages of the race the Whisk along gelding which was held at odds of a little more than 3 to 1 was five lengths in front of his nearest rival and he did not have to be strongly persevered with to hold his rivals safe to the end endFair Fair Haste a slight favorite over the win ¬ ner made a game effort to catch the leader after having been outrun for about three quarters but the best she could do was to ake second place a neck before Jubilee C which was trying for his fourth straight victory Oh Fudge was another length back n fourth position at the end and then fol owed in order Crismar Circus Night and Oatsie B BOH OH FUDGE CLOSE UP UPOh Oh Fudge was closest to the winner for about a half mile and then Jubilee C moved into second position losing that place to Fair Haste in the closing strides stridesThe The Naperville Purse featured a card which produced a number of close finishes and also quite a few surprises The sport however was most interesting and the large Tuesday aboutThe crowd had plenty to cheer about The weather was fair and the track still fast fastGetting Getting up in the last stride for a narrow decision E Daniels Fob won the first race in which ten met over seven furlongs The Daniels representative was ridden by L Wil ¬ son and those who supported the combina ¬ tion in the mutuels received 3180 for 2 False Card another outsider set all the pace and held on stubbornly in the drive but simply was unable to stall off Fob The favorite Joaney B was a distant third with Grey Squaw next Chessman was eliminated when he ran out badly on the first turn and then was eased up when it was apparent he had no further chance chanceBIG BIG SAM RUNS OUT OUTWith With several of his principal rivals elim ¬ inated by losing ground on the first turn E H Kratzers Chiefs Boy raced to an easy victory over the five furlongs of the sec ¬ ond race Big Sam the favorite ran out badly in the first bend and took another wellsupported contestant Sly Kitty with him and neither had much of a chance thereafter Sly Kitty did recover enough to finish fourth but Big Sam was never in the hunt With Henry Hauer at the reins Chiefs Boy took the lead on the first turn Contirved on thirtyfifth page CASTILLE RIDES WELL Continued from first page and never was headed thereafter Alice May finished secondhand Colorab third thirdThe The colors of Mrs G R Allen were car ¬ ried to victory in the seven furlongs third race but the veteran plater Chatterfol lasted only long enough to win by a head Mokcna presented a strong challenge in the run through the short stretch but jockey T E Ward kept the Allen eightyearold going long enough to get the decision Although Mokena could not beat the winner she was easily best of the others taking the place four lengths before Campo The early lead ¬ ers Blakeen and Corvus both well played gave way after a half mile and were far back at the end endThe The fourth race at seven furlongs pro ¬ duced another surprise R C Groffs Be Dis ¬ creet scoring and returning 2880 mutuel G D Cameron sent the son of Peter Hast ¬ ings out to make his own pace and then subjecting him to good pressure in the drive the horse lasted to win by a head Rail Down came from a long way back to present her challenge but she had to be content with second money as the public choice Formax ran third two lengths far ¬ ther away Wise Princess was best of the others othersJockey Jockey T P Martin narrowly escaped serious injury when his mount Beau Thor stumbled and fell on the first turn in the seventh race Beau Thor ran on the heels of Gonsbaby and went down but neither rider nor horse were hurt The race decided over seven furlongs was won by L Reeds Thelma DOr handled by Earl Dew Lead ¬ ing practically from the beginning the Reed mare won by two and a half lengths Gons ¬ baby was second and Falermian third
