STATEMENT OF DOCTOR STRUB Gives His Views on California Racing RacingBoards Boards Action Regarding Dates Datesfor for Santa Anita Park ARLINGTON HEIGHTS 111 July 24 Greatly concerned in the California racing situation as it affects Santa Anita which he directs Dr Charles H Strub who came from the Coast to witness the Classic Stakes at Arlington Park Saturday got away on the return trip to California yesterday Before leaving he gave out the following written statement statementThe The failure of the California Horse Rac ¬ ing Board to grant Santa Anita its regular winter dates is a blow at the very founda ¬ tions of racing and the thoroughbred breed ¬ ing industry not only in California but throughout the United States StatesThe The quality of the sport has earned the support of horselovers from every part of the Union and no single enterprise in south ¬ ern California can approach it as a winter tourist attraction Any attempt to alter this condition must of necessity be regarded as an unfriendly gesture by those with the best Interests of the turf at heart heartThe The management of Santa Anita takes pride in the fact that it voluntarily reduced the parimutuel take of 8 per cent allowed by law to 6 per cent and it has a further satisfaction in the knowledge that during the five years of its operation not a breath of scandal has marred its record recordNone None but the most capable and conscien ¬ tious officals have been employed and every care has been taken to safeguard the in ¬ terests of the public publicIt It is true that Santa Anita fought the governors bill in the legislature and did so with the sole purpose that an 8 per cent pari mutuel take would not be saddled on our pa ¬ trons which if the bill had been enacted would have taken between six and seven hundred thousands of dollars additional from them
