Vagrancy Bows to Pomayya at Jamaica Belair Miss Victim Of III Racing Luck LuckRobertson Robertson Clearly Outrides Malley in Drive to Repeat With Mrs D Sloanes Filly FillyJAMAICA JAMAICA L I N Y May 7 Belair Studs Vagrancy the outstanding filly of 1942 went down to defeat in her seasonal debult at Jamaica today as she trailed Brookmeade Stables Pomayya home by three parts of a length in the Erin Hand ¬ icap But a combination of illracing luck and a poorly judged ride on the part of Tommy Malley contributed to bring about her setback for she raced as if best and her defeat did not in the least detract from her class classRobertson Robertson on Pomayya clearly outrode Malley in the final drive With the riders reversed it was the opinion of observers that the Belair darling would have been returned the winner winnerPomayya Pomayya in taking the Erin Handicap which was fashioned for fillies and mares three years old and upward made it two straight in as many starts this spring She won the Disdainful Handicap a week ago The Erin netted her proud owner Mrs Dodge Sloanex 3275 while her back ¬ ers were rewarded with 710 710Third Third in the race was Mrs S Rut chicks What Not rigged at only 98 pounds beaten seven lengths by Vagrancy the high weight at T26 Pomayya carried 122 John A Bell Jrs Dark Discovery run ¬ nerup to Pomayya in the Disdainful wound up fourth in a very dismal effort while Mrs W R Flemmings Loveday was fifth and C V Whitneys Mackerel last lastBull Bull Dandy Suffers Setback SetbackA A crowd of 15161 turned out for the next to closing program of the meeting The weather was ideal and the track was fast The sport was exciting throughout and among other highlights was the dis ¬ qualification from first money in the third race of Mrs D H Peters Bull Dandy DandyPomayya Pomayya was hustled to the front going to the first turn with What Not in closest pursuit and Vagrancy nicely placed back of her Dark Discovery Loveday and Mack ¬ erel followed in that order Superbly rated the Brookmeade maid saved ground and merely went along evenly Approaching the halfmile post Malley decided to steer Vagrancy to the inside and there she was pocketed What Not would not let her through throughThus Thus Malley now was compelled to ease up slightly and go around the leaders In the meantime Pomayya had something in reserve when challenged When Vagrancy made her final bid through the stretch she edged closer to the leader but Robertson outrode Malley to the wire What Not was a contender to the head of the stretch where she faltered The others never were factors factorsGeorge George D Wideners Camptown ridden by Conn McCreary annexed the War Bonds Purse fourth on the card in which maid ¬ ens three years old and over clashed Camp town came on when urged to overhaul the leaders handily clicking by two lengths He was caught in 114 and returned 450 in the mutuels It was close for the place prize with Lovely One nosing out Golden Fleece for that portion of the purse purseThe The start of the race was delayed nine minutes by the wild antics of H S Dunns Dark Danger She unseated jockey Jack Skelly four times once during the post parade and thrice while at the gate She did manage on one of her splurges to run off a half mile Then when the break came she was pulled up
