ArlingtonWashingtons Purse Policy Aim to Give More To Better Horses Distribution for Initial Twelve Days of Meeting Is Increased by 8800 8800Arlington Arlington Park and Washington Park bellwethers of Chicago race tracks in fur ¬ thering the cause of good sport have adopted a new motto for the forthcoming season It Is bigger purses for better horses horsesIf If that slogan requires any additional translation it means simply that purses for the better grade of horses will be larger than those for cheaper horses But in no instance will there be a purse of less than 1500 1500Furthermore Furthermore yesterdays announcement of an additional increase of 8800 in the already liberal purses for the first 12 days of the coming meeting and similar in ¬ creases that will follow throughout the entire 67day Arlington ParkWashington Park meeting will present to the horsemen and racing public the richest meeting of its kind in America It will top any offering made by Arlington Park in its 17year his ¬ tory including its alltime high record which occurred in 1931 The daily average offering for the 67day meeting will be 18655 or a total of 1249900 1249900TwentyFour TwentyFour Overnight Purses Tilted TiltedConvinced Convinced that horses of the higher grades deserve opportunities to earn more than their lesser contemporaries Ben ¬ jamin F Lindheimer executive director of both Arlington Park and Washington Park instructed racing secretary Webb A Everett to increase 24 of the overnight purses in the first condition book to amounts rang j ing from 2000 to 2500 This means that some of the original 1500 purses have been increased to 1800 and 2000 while 1800 and 2000 purses have been boosted to 2500 2500This This new program requires the issuance of a revised condition book covering the first 12 days of the Arlington ParkWash ¬ ington Park 67day meeting which opens at Washington Park on June 21 21It It is self evident that this is one of the best pieces of news in the rather continu ¬ ous flow of glad tidings that have ema ¬ nated of late to horsemen from the offices of Arlington Park and Washington Park At a recent meeting of the Thoroughbred Racing Associations of the United States together with representatives of the Amer ¬ ican Trainers Association it was stated by the trainers that better purses for better horses would be helpful in the improve ¬ ment of the sport sportWhile While these increased purses receive their first responses from the horsemen they have as direct a relationship with the public because it is only a natural conse ¬ quence that bigger purses attract better horses and better horses provide better sport
