Racing Executives On Coast Housing Council CouncilStrub Strub Picks Other Santa Anita Officials to Aid Him in Work WorkLOS LOS ANGELES Calif May 10 Vice president and general manager Charles H Strub of Santa Anita Park is again using racing executives with their organizational experience in going to work on another volunteer waraid assignment Governor Earl Warren drafted him to direct for the newlycreated California War Council a statewide campaign to afford better hous ¬ ing facilities and care for the thousands of servicemen who enter congested areas on transient missions or leaves leavesGwynn Gwynn Wilson Los Angeles Turf Club treasurer and assistant general manager has been named vicechairman Miss Anita Weil Dr Strubs secretary and Fred A Purner Santa Anita Public Relations Di ¬ rector are associated in the work workThe The state has appropriated 2500000 to provide facilities for servicemen which will be matched by a similar amount from counties and cities concerned Offices are to be opened in Los Angeles and San Fran ¬ cisco ciscoOne One of the problems to be solved is ob ¬ taining beds care and transportation for the armed forces who come into some of the congested areas over weekends in almost as great a number as the 50000 to 74000 who used to turn out for the 100000 Santa Anita Handicap Military regional commands and state officials headed by Willard W Keith are cooperating in the campaign campaignDr Dr Strub and Gwynn Wilson have en ¬ gaged in a number of volunteer war activi ¬ ties since racing closed at Santa Anita Park They headed Special Events for the Southern California Citizens Committee which conducted the successful fundrais ¬ ing campaign last year for Navy Relief They handled First Nighter arrange ¬ ments for Irving Berlins This Is the Army show in Los Angeles for Army Emergency Relief ReliefThe The Turf Club executives served the Army Department when Santa Anita was converted into an ordnance school They direct the operation of Gladden Products Inc which was purchased a year ago by Los Angeles Turf Club Inc to create a war industrial division of the racing asso ¬ ciation
