I : . ! ; j I j ! l Sportsmans Park Racing Strip Open for Training With the racing strip open for training activities Saturday, considerable activity was noted at Sportsmans Park, where the Illinois season gets under way Saturday, April 29. A large influx of horses to augment those already on the grounds is ex- pected in the next few days. J. L. Keeshin, president of the National Jockey Club, operators of the plant, stated. With the Oaklawn Park meeting coming to a close Saturday, many stables are scheduled to leave Hot Springs with the Cicero half-miler as their destination and from Tropical Park in Florida comes word that some 20 strings will head in this direction during the coming week. Among the horsemen scheduled to leave the Gables racing grounds before the season concludes there next Saturday are E. B. Carpenter with 17 head: Joseph Pur- Ipura, 5; Otto Bagley, 10; L. Dilger, 9: Jack jBainton, 12; Thomas Marshall, who is training the stable of C. F. Martin of New England, 5. and O. L. Hopper, who handles the Swanee River Stable string, 12.
