• i i , 1 • • ■ • I , • Committee Appointments Announced by Williams Fay, Mandel and Nance Named To Positions Held Last Year Pointing out that the Illinois race tracks had led the nation in their Salvage and Victory Gardens campaign last year, chairman Ednyfed H. Williams, of the Illinois Racing Board, yesterday announced the re-appointments of board member William E. Fay as chairman of the Salvage for Victory campaign; board member Frank E. Mandel as chairman of the United States War Bond and Stamp Committee, and Clement A. Nance, secretary of the board, as chairman of the Victory Gardens Committee. Each of the chairmen plan an active and aggressive campaign, co-operating with the racing associations in every possible way. The salvage campaign last season resulted in the accumulation of 62,000 pounds of waste paper, 11,000 pounds of scrap metal and wire, 25,000 pounds of tin cans, 2,000 pounds of scrap iron and 3,075 pounds of grease and fats. The sale of War Bonds and Stamps at Illinois tracks in 1943 totaled 49,004.15. Chairman Williams also announced the re-appointments of Mandel as chairman of the Rules Committee, and Nance as chair-I man of the License Committee. Miss Margaret Hughes again was named secretary of the License Committee, which body has worked out a new set of application blanks for all horsemen, including owners this. year, so as to obtain more information, par- ticularly on new applicants. The License Committee will hold regular meetings with the stewards of the various associations and will have the help and ad- vice of committees representing the horse-t men, trainers and jockeys.
