Black Badge Wont Keep Engagement in Derby LOUISVILLE, Ky., April 4.— Thoroughly convinced that, while Black Badge is one of the countrys fastest horses, he is at an insurmountable disadvantage when asked to carry his speed more than a mile, Frank E. Childs, trainer of the three-year-old, today reiterated without reservation that his young star will not be a starter in the 5,000 added Kentucky Derby here on May 6. Black Badge is owned by Abraham Hirsch-berg of San Francisco. "Our plans for Black Badge," said Childs, "include several starts during the Keeneland and Churchill Downs meetings. And we may pit him against some of the Derby horses in the mile Derby Trial Stakes, but the Derby is out."
