i , ! ; j j Report Death of Balko News of the death last month of the 19-year-old sire Balko at S. E. Musgroves Somerton, Ariz., ranch, was received here yesterday. Death was believed to have been caused by heart disease. The son of Omar Khayyam — Rahu was sold by W. L. S. Martin, who had purchased him as a yearling at the Saratoga sales for ,600, to Mrs. Charles M. Amory for a reported 5,000 during his three-year-old season. He won 1,580 on the race track and was retired by Mrs. Amory to her Sagamore Farm at Glyndon. Md., in 1932, where he remained until 1938, Sagamore meanwhile passing to Mrs. Amory s son, Alfred Gwynne Vander- j I bilt. After making the 1938 season at Tim-berlawn Farm in Kentucky, he was entered in the Maryland fall sales and purchased by Frank Orsatti for ,000. Orsatti shipped ! ! Balko to California, where he stood at vari- ! j ous farms until his sale to Musgrove. I
