1 Good Sport in Prospect During War Relief Week All Age Divisions to See Action In Three Scheduled Features LOUISVILLE, Ky.. April 21. — Racing throughout the coming week at Churchill Downs will be for the American Red Cross. The Keeneland and Downs clubs each generously gives up three of its spring dates to comprise this full week of sport for the benefit of the organization which is achieving so much to relieve suffering and expedite the successful conclusion of World War II. Indications are that the quality of the racing will be at least as high as that which is proving so attractive to the public during Keeneland s current meeting. Some of the best two-year-olds developed thus far in the 1944 turf season will participate in Tuesdays ,000 Lafayette Stakes of four and a half furlongs. C. C. Tanners recent Downs winner, Best Effort, is among the candidates, as also is Col. C. V. Whitneys Red Pixie, another winner at the meeting. The following day, Wednesday, will be notable for the renewal of the 0,000 Blue Grass Stakes, at a mile and a furlong. Probable starters in this test for Kentucky Derby hopefuls, include Brolite Farms Challenge Me, Erlanger Stables Shut Up, A. C. Ernsts Alorter, Hyman Friedbergs Harriet Sue. M. B. Goffs Skytracer, C. V. Whitneys Signals Bloke, and either Broad Grin or Tambo from the Greentree Stable. The ancient Clark Handicap of ,000 added, at a mile and a sixteenth, for three -year-olds and upward, will embellish Saturdays final program of the charity week. There will be a large field of the local handicap talent in this event, to all present indications. Last spring 9,000 was raised in one program devoted to the American Red Cross, with Churchill Downs adding ,000. Business at the turnstiles and in the mu-tuels this spring exceeds that for a corresponding period last year by a notable margin.
