FLICK, away well, raced into contention, assumed the lead midway of the stretch and held on gamely to hold VEE in the drive. The latter responded readily when roused for the stretch run, but was not good enoueh. QUAKERTOWN finished strongly in a good effort. ISLAM KING went to the front early, made the pace to the final furlong, then faltered. FT.aG ORLAND, on the outside, beean fast, but could not keep up and may have been short. GOLDEN FLEECE, never far back, came to the inside for the drive and finished resolutely, but could not reach*the winner. BARNACLE, a keen factor throughout, faltered during the final eighth. BACK TO BACK raced evenly and had no excuse. MANCHESTER could not better her position under brisk handling. TREATY GIRL lacked early speed. THORNTINA was never dangerous. OPEN FIRE saved ground when outrun to the stretrh, was taken to the middle of the track for the drive, responded to brisk handling and disposed of the leader* in the last sixteenth. PAYABLE, never far back, reached the lead when settled for the drive, but could not retain her advantage under good handling, although lasting to finish on equal terms with COUNTESS PLAY. The latter, much used engaeing LIN WOOD FINNIE during the first half, held on well tiurine the stretch run and lasted to dead-heat with PAYABLE for second. JACK DOVE raced evenlv in a good "effort. FRIARS SCOUT, never far back, came determinedly when roused for the drive, but could not menace the winner. SPARROW CHIRP stumbled at the start, improved her position steadily after recovering and finished fast under punishment. OUT FRONT could not set to the leaders when set down for the drive. ALLERGIC took command near the stretch, but failed to stay under strong handling. HIDDEN ACE went to the front at once, made the pace t-i the upper turn, then faltered. PAILLE, outrun to the la5t three furlongs, closed strongly nr-.fcr punishment. WINGED PHARIAH moved up fast when set down for the drive, but gave way during the last sixteenth.
