Nichols is Chicagos leading rider this season and Tuesday at Hawthorne I handled four winners. Jockey M. Pena is making preparations 1 to depart for Detroit. I I If H. E. Jacobys Good Bid is a starter in the Steger Handicap here Saturday, the rider will be Jess Higley. 1 ~— ■ — -— The services of jockeys Walter Miller have j been leased for 90 days by C. E. Lund. The , boys contract is held by Albert Fishman. A. E. Mettz has been granted stalls at Washington Park for the horses he trains for A. S. Higgins, G. J. Hossack and Ben Fogelson. J. D. Mooney, former jockey who has been training horses the past several years, arrived from Miami. He is shopping about for a few horses and plans to open a public stable. The Horsemens Benevolent and Protective Association today was in receipt of a donation of 00 from Mrs. Karl Mayer, widow of the Illinois owner and breeder, who died a short time ago. Mrs. Mayer said it was the wish of her late husband that the donation be made.
