Off at 1:02 EASTERN WAR TIME. Start good from stall gate. Won driving; second and third the same. PHOLOS moved to the fore soon after leaving the half mile post, drew clear rapidly and responded to pressure when challenged by SARAWAK in the late stretch. The latter, off sluggishly and slow to settle into best stride, moved with a rush leaving the turn, was ea ed slightly when in dose quarters near the three-sixteenths post, then rallied well to be going gamely at the end. GUMDROP raced in the center of the pack for a half, rallied mildly, but could not menace the top pair. ROUND TRIP raced well placed throughout, but failed to rally. LICTOR was in • lose quarters on the inside during the first eighth. AUDIBLE quit badly after forcing the pace for a half. VETERAN showed good early spped, but was taken up throughout while attempting to run out. Overweight — Pholos. 3 pounds: Round Trip. 2; Pilates Fun. 1. SECOND RACE 1 MILE AND 70 YARDS. Won driving; second and third the mt SERVICE PILOT, bard held while attempting to move into contention early, was allowed to improve his position graduallv, raced wide into the stretch, then outgamed STATESMAN while lugging in slightly. The latter was reserved just off the early pace, moved well to assume command in the early stretch, then fought it out willinglv. MAGNETIC STAR, under double wraps while holding a slight lead early, tired, gradually when asked for best. MANADRU was steadied behind the pace of MAGNETIC STAR and was showing in front briefly at the three sixteenths post, then flattened out. The others failed to obtain a prominent position. ARIEL SONG, showing her usual early speed, took a clear advantage soon after the start was hard ridden, but was not good enough. SIS ROSIE. off in front, but unable to stay with GOOD ROSS early, moved into the lead soon after passing the furlong post and appeared ready to draw clear while being ridden out. GOOD "ROSS was sprinted into command at once, held sway to mid-stretch, then could not tope with the winner. LOVE MY GAL raced well placed throughout, but was unable to make up ground under pressure. GAY BIT raced in contention throughout and held on well. BON JOUR, slow to get going, rallied ony mildly when urged. SPANGLED GAME, in front early, tired gradually after six furlongs. ALEX BARTH was close to the leaders early, but tired when urged. LORD CALVERT showed nothing. MEGOGO, pinched back at the break, was closer than usual after half a mile, but tired. POLYNESIAN, off well and taken to the inside after assuming command, was well rated while setting the pace, turned back a challenge by THE DOGE entering the stretch, then drew clear while being ridden out. HOOP JR. broke alertly, raced in the first flight position throughout, tired slightly right at the end and came out of the race decidedly lame. DARBY DIEPPE was unhurried while lacking speed early, saved ground while moving into serious contention and continued on gamely to the end. THE DOGE, sent into the runner up position early, was well snugged behind the leader, made a game challenge nearing the eighth post, but faltered slightly thereafter. PAVOT was eased back when in close quarters on the inside early, swung to the outside and then was bothered slightly when caught behind THE DOGE in the early stretch. SEA SWALLOW was within striking distance earlv. but failed to rally. ALEXIS was unable to better his position. ADONIS dropped back alter . half. BOBANET showed a fair race for the first mile. GALLORETTE, restrained just off the early leaders, responded well when cailed upon, was carried out slightly through the stretch, but gradually wore down RECCE. The latter sprinted into command early, was perfectly rated while setting the pace, held on gamely to the end. but was not good enough. BE FAITHFUL was slow to settle into stride, saved ground while improving position and had no excuse. WAR STRATEGY was going along easily while within striking distance of the leaders, but flattened out when asked tor best. BLUE DECK showed nothing. E. put BIG PARTY and BLUE WINGS away in the first half, drew clear and was going easily at the end. BLUE WINGS, showing more early speed than usual, alternated in forcing and making the pace for five furlongs, but was no match for the winner in the drive. SOPHOCLES showed an even effort under strong handling. HASTEVILLE, far out of it for half a mile, closed well. QUIEN ES failed to show late speed. BIG PARTY was done eaily.
