I j J Adonis Scores on Muddy Strip at Suffolk Downs Helis Gelding Gets Up in Final Strides to Down Hammer-Lock SUFFOLK DOWNS, East Boston, Mass., June 12.— Fairly close to the pace during the early running and then getting up in the final strides, William Helis Adonis plowed his way through the Suffolk Downs mud to win the Fenway, sixth and feature race, before 17,052 enthusiasts this afternoon. Adonis just nailed the favorite, H. G. Bedwells Hammer-Lock in this event of a mile and a sixteenth, with I. A. Bal-lous Hill Sun finishing third. A week ago, Adonis set the pace, but tired in the final stages against slightly better horses, but the four-year-old chestnut gelding, by Eeigh Count, out of Cray Jane, really liked todays going. He was kept within striking distance of the pace set by Hammer-Lock, being third behind Morris Wexlers Broke Even. Hammer-Lock couldnt open up enough and after about five-eighths of a mile, Adonis was moved to the outside by jockey Archie Daniels. He was taken a bit wide by the fading Broke Even, as the field turned into the homestretch, while Hammer-Lock saved ground, and then it was a duel down the stretch, with Adonis just making it at I better than 13 to 1 odds. Well back were ! the others in the competition for third and fourth money, with Franklin Stables Chuck taking the fourth share of the purse. The secondary feature, the East Wind, a ,000 six-furlongs dash, was won by A. F. Plocks Ellis, a 1 to 2 short in the race, and running like one.
