Belmont Park Attendance Up But Mutuel Handle Slumps ALBANY, N. Y., June 12.— Attendances increased but betting slumped during the recent 24-day meeting at Belmont Park, Alger B. Chapman, president of the State Tax Commission, reported today. The average daily crowd numbered 29,572, as against 28,402 last year, the totals being 709,729 and 511,236. The average daily mutuel handle was ,593,667, as compared with ,741,325 in 1945. The total betting was 2,248,000 this year. At the 18-day meeting last year it was 9,343,842. The state collected ,031,761.09, as compared with ,187,141.30. This represented an increase of 26x/2 per cent, but a proportional decrease of 5.1 per cent. The daily revenue average was 67,990.05 this year, a decrease from the 77,065.43 of last year. While aggregate bets at the , and 0 windows increased, the sales at the 0 and 00 wickets dropped about ,500,000. The average play per person decreased from 6.52 last year to 7.71.
