JUDY DUNN, rated close to the early pace of the leaders, secured room on the inside entering the stretch, shook off ON BOARD in the drive and drew clear. GALLANTRY, in a contending position from the start, closed stoutly under hard urging. OLD SMOKEY lacked early speed, improved his position quickly on the turn and closed with a rush. YANKEE NOTIONS took command when SPARKER was through, but weakened in the drive. TWINK SHOT raced evenly, but could not engage the leaders. ON BOARD was used up trying to get to the front and quit. FOULARD was never prominent. Overweight— Gold River, 1 pound. Gallantry claimed by Mrs. F. Sharpe On Board claimed by C. A. Tanner. Foulard claimed by L. and R. J. Fischer. Judy Dunn claimed by A. PUFFED UP, closest to the pace of TOP CEILING in the backstretch, went slightly wide entering the stretch, swerved to the inside and bumped TOP CEILING as the latter bore out in the stretch, then drew clear. TOP CEILING opened up a clear lead, drifted out in the stretch and bumped the winner, then hung on well. POLARIS lacked early speed, but finished fast on the outside. GRANDCIAD, outrun early, closed very fast. TURKEY FOOT broke fast and dropped back at once, then came again. BIG BOZO, a forward factor early, quit. MICHIGAN CHEVY had early speed while on the outside, but quit. BRAVE BID broke into the air and was not persevered with. Overweight— Sister Fox, 1 pound. Puffed Up claimed by S. Chris. EBONY EDGE, well placed from the start and at home in the going, moved between horses in the stretch to take a clear lead and drew out. BRIGHT TRACE, rated close to the early leaders, challenged stoutly in the stretch, but was not good enough. ABRAZO, slow to settle into stride, secured room on the inside to save ground and finished fast. BORDER SCOUT was unable to engage the leaders. ARIEL IMAGE closed some ground after being sluggish in the early stages. GHOST HUNT was unable to keep up. BETTY GRABLE quit. MY BLITZEN had early speed to open a clear lead, but quit badly.
