Prince Chevalier Wins French Derby PARIS, France, June 17. Reuters Paul Boyrivens Prince Chevalier won the Prix Du Jockey Club, also known as the French Derby, over the mile and one-half course at Longchamps yesterday, defeating Elseneur by three-quarters of a length. The winner, by Prince Rose Chevalerie, covered the distance in 2:34. After Pyrrhus and Quatrain had set the pace most of the way, Jockey Charles Bouillon moved the favored Prince Chevalier to the front about 500 yards from the finish line and kept him there daplte a strong challenge from Elseneur. Pactole, who won the French Guineas recently, was third.
