" Hail Victory, Sigma Kappa Meet In Brevity Purse Over One Mile Sixteen Others Also Slated T To Go in Arlington Offering; Sprinters Clash in Sarazen ARLINGTON PARK, Arlington Heights, 111., June 27. While the Sarazen Purse, a six furlongs test designed for top sprinters, carries a ,000 purse and was originally fashioned as the feature on tomorrows well-balanced program, the appearance of the Calumet Farms Hail Victory, Bernard J. Baxs Sigma Kappa, Hal Price Headleys Letmenow, and a host of other clever thoroughbreds in the Brevity, a one mile jaunt, has stolen the spotlight as the local meeting offers its eleventh day of sport. The Brevity has attracted a maximum field, with six of the 18 horses entered being placed on the also-eligible list. Three-year-olds and upward compose the field, and Hail Victory, who is being prepped by Ben A. Jones for the 0,000 Dick Welles, and the 0,000 ftars and Stripes, was a surprise entry. The four-year-old son of Blenheim U. Sable Scarf has started once during the meeting, but that was after a layoff of several weeks, and he didnt show his usual good speed, finishing in back of Brief Sigh, Miss America, Plaidloch and Lt. Bill. But during the spring season in Kentucky he was a horse to conjure with as he hung up three consecutive victories with the 0,000 Clark Handicap being his smartest successful contribution. It was in the seventy-second running of that mile and one-sixteenth event that the colt picked up 118 pounds and convincingly trimmed Top Reward, Bull Play and Sigma Kappa. Stables Utility Man Hail Victory is regarded in the Calumet barn as a "utility man." That is, he is completely outshined by the illustrious Armed and plays only a fair second fiddle when the handicap champion is pointed for stakes. But when and if Armed ever shows any signs of weariness from his hard campaign, Jones can always be fairly well represented with Hail Victory. This he proved in Kentucky., Armed had completed a tough Florida campaign and was being prepped for the rich specials at Maryland and New York. Jones depended on Hail Victory at Kentucky and the colt came through with the famed "Devils red and blue" flying. Top weight of the Brevity is the River Divide Farms Brief Sigh, who won in a common gallop against Hail Victory, but he is last on the also-eligible list and there is a slight chance that he will be in the field when it parades. If he does happen to get in, he may be depended upon to give another smart account of himself. Letmenow is well established as a stakes mare of the first water. She has not visited the winners circle this year, but she has finished close on the heels of some keen competitors. E. Wortmahs Risky Hash, who displayed good stretch running ability when she finished just three-quarters of a length off Mrs. Ada L. Rices capable Danada Red in a race here last week, is another who must be represented as a formidable foe for those in the Brevity. Others in the race are Vitamin Dee, Sigma Kappa, Maxiekin, Juke Box, Bobs Pick, Toy-Quay, Chance Taker, Max OSullivan, Sand-slinger, Bobs Dream, Scots Bill, Wild Advice, Lucky Colonel and Gueydan. The Sarazen finds a small field of well matched sprinters contesting and the Continued on Page Thirty Hail Victory, Sigma Kappa Meet in Arlington Offering Continued from Page One chances are that form players will concentrate on the Bobanet Stables Trojan i Fleet, who gave an excellent account of t himself against Calumets Good Blood I Tuesday.
