Safeguard in Front at Every Marker MONMOUTH PARK, Oceanport, N. J., June 27. Brook-meade Stables chestnut filly, Safeguard, a candidate for the 0,000 Rumson Handicap on July 4, made every pole a winning one in the featured Freehold Purse here today as she set a new track record of 1:11 for six furlongs. Shouldering 117 pounds and hustled all the way by Jimmy Ly nhc.Safeguard revealed good courage while clinging to a dwindling lead to record a nose victory over Mrs. Helen Lebowitzs Turbine, who strove valiantly to reach the pacemaker through the final sixteenth of a mile. Turbine was easily second best in the eight horse field of high class sprinters earning that position four lengths before Mrs. H. Friedbergs Harriet Sue, the third horse. Bright seasonable weather and a lightning fast track, combined to lure out an enthusiastic throng of 6,693 and Safeguards triumph proved vastly popular, the filly returning as a staunch favorite.
