Sportsmans Pays Tribute to Arcaro 4 4Citations Citations Rider Will Be On Hand fo Present Cup to Winner of Todays Feature FeatureSPORTSMANS SPORTSMANS PARK Cicero 111 May 1 Nearly all of the horsemen who con ¬ sidered themselves to be training fast horses took the opportunity to enter in Mondays fivefurlongs feature event titled the Eddie Arcaro irr honor of the topnotch reinsman who was astride Calumet Farms Citation in the 74th running of thatfelassic today In guiding Citation to victory in the Derby Arcaro became the iirst jockey to ride four winners in the classic and will be guest of the National Jockey Club here Monday afternoon Arcaro will present a cup to the winner of the feature named in his honor honorArcaro Arcaro rode at Sportsmans Park in 1932 the first year the halfmiler opened Under the tutelage of the late Clarence E Davi son he was highly successful at the West Side oval Riding on the opening day of the fall meeting that year October 10 Arcaro accepted four mounts and scored with two of them namely Flo M and PiecemealSix Piecemeal Six on Also Eligible List ListConditioned Conditioned for threeyearolds and up ¬ ward and endowed with a purse of 2500 the Eddie Arcaro drew an oversubscribed field of 16 of which 10 will be allowed to start over the abbreviated course J M Hutchins mare Proud Ruler will most likely fill the role of public choice from her most recent effort in the second divi ¬ sion of the Inaugural Handicap In this effort Proud Ruler held a commanding lead to the final yards where she bowed in defeat by a short head to Grissom Shermans good threeyearold Fertile Lands During her Florida campaign the daughter of Easy Mon matched strides with the best sprinters there Unfortun ¬ ately many of her more speedy competitors are unlikely starters being listed on the also eligible list These are in order Al Gaals Catchweista H D Maggios Patmi boy H S Stables Albulil M H Van Bergs Rosebed J E Begnauds Bold Dandy and W H Bishops May Fly FlyMary Mary and J J Gregorys feather weighted Little Fair Mr J L Chesneys Play Hands Benjamin Fogelsons Petsome T J Berrys Mister Easy Phoebe Flemings Spring Thaw and Pete J Valentis Sear mans Pal are of the swifter racers that will be able to fulfill their engagement if their owners so wish Little Fair has shown early foot in her two attempts here one a fivefurlong dash in which she finished third behind Bubbling Easy and Gams and the other in the seyenfurlong United Charities of Chicago Purse in which she placed fourth after setting the pace for five furlongs Play Hands Spring Thaw and Seamans Pal have all started here but did not display the speed of which they were capable
