Field of at Least Dozen TwoYearOld Fillies Seen for Miss America Stakes Bird Shot and No Strings Turn In Useful Workouts for Lincoln WeekEnd Race RaceWASHINGTON WASHINGTON PARK Homewood HI June 8 The 10000 Miss America Stakes a five furlongs event for twoyearold fillies is to have its inaugural running here next Saturday and a field of at least 12 junior misses is expected to answer the bugle for the dash The Miss America was added to the regular list of Lincoln Fields added money fixtures this year when presi ¬ dent Edward J Fleming and general man ¬ ager Peter J ODonnell decided that there should be a stake for juvenile fillies filliesAfton Afton Villa Farms Bird Shot victorious during the current Lincoln Fields season and Mrs John Marschs No Strings who also visited the local winners circle were on the fast course here this morning for trials in preparation for the Saturday headline Bird Shot breezed three fur ¬ longs in 35 while No Strings breezed a half mile in 49 49Riders Riders have already been assigned for several of the Miss America candidates jockey Charles Swain who has been show ¬ ing good saddle form is to have the mount on Bird Shot and Bobby Campbell will of course be astride Augustus Nahms Trippen Wilbur Borton will guide Brown Hotel Stables Jetrose one of the early choices for the weekend feature George South will pilot F L Flanders Blue Note Steve Brooks is to handle Mrs Albert Sabaths Alsabs Day Arch Daniels is named on Murlogg Farms Admired and Mel Peterson will ride Torrence C Mel roses Seely SeelyA A number of promising young stallions are represented among the eligibles for the 10000 Miss America Stakes among them are Alsab Best Seller and Occupation all of whom sent out their first crop of cam ¬ paigners this season seasonAlsab Alsab and Occupation are well known to Chicagoans Indeed they are locally owned Mrs Albert Sabaths Alsab was one of the best performers in modern times some years ago and John Marschs Occu ¬ pation was the 1942 futurity specialist specialistBest Best Seller a son of Blue Larkspur Bazaar raced for his breeder the late Col Edward R Bradley before being sold to John Galbreath of Columbus Ohio Best Seller won the Equipoise Mile in 1942 and 1943 among other stakes stakesAlsab Alsab is represented in the Miss America by the promising Alsabs Day The filly out of the mare Seventh Day won two of her four starts Occupations offspring is the gray No Strings After debuting unsuc ¬ cessfully at Washington Park last May 18 when she left the gate tardily No Strings won easily on May 28 Seely owned and bred by Melrose is Best Sellers represent ¬ ative in the Miss America Seely won her first start easily at Churchill Downs and next time out she lost a neck decision to Alsabs Day At Washington Park last Fri ¬ day she was edged out in a photo finish by the colt Martin Whelan
