WAR CHAMP assumed command at once, was under light urging to maintain a slight advantage and held on gamely to the end. BE PROUD was steadied close to the pace while saving ground early, came out for the drive, but was not good enough. HENRY PAYNE forced the pace and held on tenaciously. SHERRY D. closed well from off the pace. DOREENS DREAM lacked early speed. SUN BABY showed speed for a half mile. CORSICAN SWORD passed tiring horses. MILKSTONE flattened out after a brief challenge. MY LITTLE MISS showed good speed from the outside position, engaged the leaders on the turn, assumed a clear lead, then cut over to the inside and had enough left to hold FIGHTING DEVIL safe. The latter improved position steadily and finished stoutly. CHIRRUP broke alertly, was kept along the inside, challenged through the stretch, then tired. KODIAK was unable to keep up. KINGFISH finished stoutly along the inside. SNOBILITY had speed to the final bend, then weakened. QUEEN CHICA was unable to keep up. JACONET showed nothing. PEACE WAY went evenly. TULKINGHORN sulked in the early running, closed stoutly in the final furlong and pulled up sore. LADY GATHER lost ground when moving stoutly. H. A. KELLER lacked early speed. POWER DRUNK raced close to the pace from the outset, gained a slight advantage on the stretch turn, was unable to draw clear and faltered. LOCAL BAND was between horses early, gained the lead before reaching the turn, held on gamely, but was not good enough. LOLLING, slow to settle into best stride, closed stoutly between horses. TUBBY B., sluggish in the early stages, finished with a belated rush. BEAMING LIGHT quit SUN ELSIE loomed a threat in the stretch, then tired. PAPER MILL dropped back at the start and showed nothing. KLIMIE, reserved off the pace to the final quarter, moved to the leaders readily and was put to a stout drive in the stretch to outfinish U. S. BOUND. The latter engaged the pacemaker after going a half mile and after gaining command along the rail, was going gamely under a drive, but came out trying to savage the winner. BARGAIN BUYER showed speed from the start, but weakened in the final furlong. ORBIT tired after losing the lead. SHIRLSON had no mishap. EIGHT BELLS was never prominent LINWOOD JIM trailed. OUR DODO, drawing clear before going a half mile, saved ground along the rail and held on stubbornly after losing command. RATON, outrun during the early stages, rallied mildly to close ground on the extreme outside and earned a dead heat with ARKMO. The latter moved along on the inside to challenge the leaders on the final turn, but was not good enough. .GOLDEN VIEW was moving stoutly in the stretch when his rider elected to take to the inside and failed to secure ample, racing room. LUSMORES rushed boldly on the outside to challenge for the lead after going a half mile, then tired. TARAWA, steadied close to the pace while saving ground, lacked a closing rally. EXCELENTE had no mishap. SHASTA TURBAN was through early after racing wide on the turns. LOVE STORY was outrun. A claim cf foul against the winner by the rider of LUSMORES was disallowed.
