Says Rent Control Needed WASHINGTON. D. C, May 8 UP. — Rent Director Tighe E. Woods told congress today that the country needs a one year extension of federal rent controls to prevent an "intolerable rise" in rents. Woods testified at the start of house banking committee hearings on a proposed bill to extend the controls, which are slated to expire June 30. He said most post-war home construction has been priced out of reach of millions who "desperately" need housing.
