, • 1 : Middleground May Seek Withers Mile at Belmont Eddie Arcaro to Ride Your Host On Saturday at New York Track BELMONT PARK, Elmont, L. I., N. Y., May 10. — Trainer Max Hirsch said today that he may saddle King Ranchs Middle-ground for Saturdays Withers Mile. He would have to work a solid mile before the Preakness a week from Saturday, in any case, and the Withers carries 5,000 in added money, as well as considerable prestige. The other probables in the Withers are William Goetz Your Host, Mrs. Andy Schuttingers Ferd, Mrs. Walter M. Jeffords Suleiman and Post Card, George D. Wideners Lights Up and Brandywine Stables Greek. Song. No decision has yet been reached concerning Brookmeade Stables Sunglow and Greek Ship, while C. T. Chenerys Hill Prince, who finished second in the Derby, will await the Preakness. Eddie Arcaro will ride Your Host, who will probably again be favored in the Withers, despite his crushing defeat in the Derby, in which he set the pace for the Withers distance. Bill Boland will again be on Middleground if he goes postward, while Ted Atkinson will ride Ferd, winner of the Swift last Saturday. Eric Guerin will ride one of the Jeffords colts, while Ovie Scur-lock will be on. Greek Song and George Hettinger is to pilot Lights Up.
