Coloradans Steadfast In Loyalty to Racing RacingPoll Poll Shows Same Number as For It in 1948 Want It Continued ContinuedLITTLETON LITTLETON Colo May 6 Coloradans favor parimutuel racing today just as much as when they voted for an amend ¬ ment to legalize it four years ago agoA A statewide poll conducted for the Den ¬ ver Post and appearing in that publication this morning substantiates this fact beyond doubt The poll was made for the Post by Research Services Inc IncIt It pointed out that the percentage of those favoring legalized race wagering in all forms is exactly the same as it was in October 1948 At that time the people of this state expressed themselves on the issue as follows 52 per cent for racing 38 per cent against and 10 per cent undecided undecidedAgain Again this past March they were asked by researchers If another poll on pari mutuel racing were called would you vote for or against racing here in Colorado The results of the survey show their deci ¬ sion is unchanged The percentages are exactly the same sameUsing Using the trend indicated and eliminat ¬ ing those declaring themselves undecided the figures reveal 58 per cent for racing over 42 per cent against it This indicates the sport has maintained its popularity and certainly discounts the theory brought forth when the amendment was voted in namely the majority of people even though they accepted racing would not continue to patronize it for long longAfter After studying the poll M H Bud Robineau president of Centennial Race Track said The figures clearly indicate the people of Colorado dont merely accept racing but that they really want it Ever since Centennial first introduced horse rac ¬ ing on a major scale to Coloradans in 1950 our citizens have grown to enjoy and appreciate the sport more and more as they became increasingly acquainted with it itLast Last year the Colorado Racing Commis ¬ sions annual report to Gov Dan Thornton revealed parimutuel wagering on races had brought 160502230 to the state treasurys general fund which is used to finance state improvement projects
