Play 36-Hole Qualifying Round in Western Junior Open I MINNEAPOLIS, Minn., June 16 UP.— Early arrivals played practice rounds today ~r to sharpen their game for the start of the ; 108-hole Wester Junior Golf Tournament i tomorrow. A 36-hole qualifying round to reduce the ; field of 105 to 36 kicks off the tournament l tomorrow. The 18 -hole rounds of match l play follow on Wednesday and Thursday, capped by the 36-hole championship grind | Friday. Open only to youths under 20, the tourney has attracted junior golfers from 15 j states and half a dozen universities. Fifteen of the young golfers tried out the University ; of Minnesota course, scene of the tourney, yesterday. The number one choice to succeed last years champ, Hillman Robbins, Jr., of ! Memphis, Term., is Eddie Merrins, captain i of the Louisiana State University team. Merrins was last years medalist. Johnny Revolta, Jr., Evanston, HI., son i of the famed touring professional, is another favorite.
