Calumet Captures Pair Of Hollywood Stakes A Gleam Takes Debonair, While Stable Sweeps All Vanity Placings HOLLYWOOD PARK, Inglewood, Calif-June ■ 16. — Calumet Farm undoubtedly has j j an outstanding three-year-old filly in Real Delight, now campaigning in Chicago, but i westerners believe the stable has her peer j : in A Gleam who last Saturday at Holly- i wood Park registered her third straight stakes triumph. The latest achievement I [ for the daughter of Blenheim II. and Twilight Tear was a victory in the 0,000 De- j bonair Stakes in which she mastered most of the best-year-olds of both sex racing in California. Prior to her victory in the Debonair A I Gleam whipped all of the leading fillies and mares in the Milady Handicao at sev- ! en furlongs and disposed of all of the top | fillies her own age over the mile and a sixteenth of the Hollywood Oaks. I In winning the Debonair A Gleam ran seven furlongs in 1:22, within three-fifths of a second of the track record she estab- , ! lished in the Milady Handicap, and won with three lengths to spare over Mr. and I ; Mrs. N. G. Phillips Stranglehold. Third to | complete the distance was L. B. Mayers Princess Lygia who last season was one of i the contenders for the juvenile filly cham- ! [ pionship. 1 j Calumet Farm dominated the racing ; i picture here last week-end, for that fabu-lous j establishment also accounted for the Debonairs companion feature, the 5,000 | i Vanity Handicap. In this event trainer J Jimmy Jones sent out three horses and had j I the pleasure of seeing them finishing one-two-three. In order they were Two Lea, [ Wistful and Jennie Lee. The Vanity was a run of a mile and a sixteenth for fillies and mares. | Calumets feat in the Vanity recalled similar ones in the 1941 Arlington Futurity | I | J i j I [ | | I when the Warren Wrights horses took the ; three top honors with Sun Again, Some | Chance and Wishbone, and in the 1947 Washington Park Futurity when they ran | one-two-three with Bewitch. Citation and Free America. j In addition to winning both of last : Saturdays stakes Calumet Farm also ac- | counted for an overnight event with the four-year -old Kv. Lea. I
