G Lad Scores by Head Over Flashy Fellow FellowLatter Latter Drifts Out Badly and Finishes Along Outside Fence FenceBy By Jf J HAHN HAHNCAHOKIA CAHOKIA DOWNS East St Louis 111 May 2 Frank O Akins Flashy Fellow considered one of the better twoyearolds racing here last fall made his seasonal debut at this track Wednesday night and was installed the second choice by the crowd of 3389 in attendance but the son of Flash o Night was not up to the task and dropped a head decision to Mrs Emma Hermans G Lad a Kentuckybred son of Better Self G Girl Martin F Keeleys Jimmie Yancey was a badly beaten third in the sixhorse race raceWayne Wayne Chambers had the mount on the i Akin colorbearer and after showing in front all the way under a steady ride by Chambers the big chestnut gelding drifted out badly at the head of the stretch and finished along the outside fence Benefit ting by this turn in events jockey F T Maher sent his charge inside the early leader and in a spirited battle through the stretch G Lad who has a reputation of being a sloppy track horse got his head in front at the wire Ed Kudlas Andy Mandy the favorite was a badly beaten third finishing half a dozen lengths to the rear of the top two twoAndy Andy Mandy ridden by Harrell Bolin made a fair charge at the head of the stretch and made up a little ground after trailing ihe field the opening half but in the run through the stretch failed to put up the stretch run his many supporters expected expectedBefore Before losing the heartbreaker through the inability of Flashy Fellow to keep a straight course in the stretch when it was apparent that the Akin sophomore was best the same stable encountered bad luck in the fourth race when Skippy L the public choice pulled the same stunt as his stablemate At the head of the stretch Skippy L was in front by three lengths but he took out before straightenipg for the drive and while holding on well despite his Mattingly and Hardicks Pillway Miss Redbird the early leader was third in the eight horse event eventChambers Chambers who rode both Akin horses when they ran out was the riding star winning with Rulers Faith in the opening number and V E Headys Savannah Red in the fifth In both instances Chambers had his charges under a drive to score their first victories of the meeting meetingHeading Heading the Friday card is the Maple wood Purse a six and onehalf furlongs dash for threeyearolds and upward in which nine are entered including several who raced here last fall in the handicap division The dash is made up of Brady Lane Laydown Bernour Galloway K Mighty Epic Paddys Pal Early Dream Mala Kee and E Awiwi
