C M Rood Dies in California Following Lingering Illness IllnessHOLLYWOOD HOLLYWOOD PARK Inglewood Calif May 10 C M Rood prominentroil execu ¬ tive and sportsman died early today after a lingering illness at his home in Garden Grove GroveMr Mr Rood known to his friends as Doc was one of the original sponsors of the Hollywood Turf Club and had served as a member of its board of directors continu ¬ ously since 1936 two years before it opened its first thoroughbred race meeting He had served terms as vicepresident and secretary and retired from the latter posi ¬ tion only last fall because of his failing health due to cancer Born in Meigs County Ohio Mr Rood who at the time of his death Ayas president of McVicarRood in Hunting Beach started in the oil business while in his early twen ¬ ties working in Texas and New York be fore permanently settling in California 31 years ago Mr Rood is survived by his widow and one daughter Mrs Thelma L Kelly of Los Angeles Funeral services will be announced later
