H. C. Hatch, represented by Chickpen and J Donstick, took the biggest portions of the purse when his pair, with Chickpen on the J leading end, went over the line a head be- fore her stablemate while lapped on the pair J and, waging a sensational finish, came Park-| wood Stables Listaro to take the measure of his running companion, Vingt Cinq. Three others that failed to threaten at any stage followed in the wake of the quartet. The Hatch pair ruled prohibitive choices. From the beginning of the feature it was apparent that the Hatch and Parkwood colors were to be in the thick of the con-y tention when Vingt Cinq and Donstick went out to set the pace. This was evidently . ] under orders of the respective trainers and, with Chickpen following at their heels, this , order was maintained for the better part of the race. Rosesilla was holding fourth ! j position, not far from the pacemakers, and Mann had Listaro behind the Gorman miss ■ [ as he led the others. Reaching the final turn, Vingt Cinq was , shaken up in an effort to resist Chickpen, but the Hatch miss was not to be denied, and fought her way to the front inside the J final furlong. In the stretch with Listaro j moving up gamely, the four waged a thrill- ing engagement, with Chickpen just lasting . j ; long enough. At the end Donstick was I | beaten a head, with Listaro a nose back, | | to lead Vingt Cinq by two lengths. I The J. E. Smallman stable achieved their . , : first victory at the present meeting when j j I Feudal Lord swept to a clean-cut victory in | j the decision of the Hamilton, a dash of six . I I and one-half furlongs that served as the j ! semi-feature of the afternoon. This saw five i ; other good sprinters opposing the fleet- j j footed Smallman colt, and it found W. J. Watermans recently acquired Lady Marl-1 . | boro following the winner over the line to , suffer defeat by four lengths, while the ; short end of the spoils went to Lugen Lug- 1 gage when he took the measure of C. J. Patchetts Meloy. .
