Trainers Derby Record of Five Winners Held by Ben A. Jones CHURCHILL DOWNS, Louisville, Ky., May 4. — Ben A. Jones, the sage of Parnell, Mo., who came out of the midwest with a small stable of his own and, later put the tack on five Kentucky Derby winners, [ holds the trainers record for the big race. Jones first success in the "Run for the Roses" was achieved with Herbert M. Woolfs Lawrin in 1938, he then joined the Calumet Farm forces and sent out four victors under the Devil red and blue colors of that famed establishment: Whirlaway, 1941; Pensive, 1944; Citation, 1948, and Ponder, the 1949 Derby star. The late H. J. "Dick" Thompson, who held the previous mark with four Derby victors, saddled Col. E. R. Bradleys Behave Yourself, 1921; Bubbling Over, 1926; Burgoo King, 1932, and Brokers Tip, 1933.
