CASHMERE worked his way up on the extreme outside, came wide through the stretch and was up in the final stride to overtake BER MAR BOY. The latter forced the pace for a half mile, assumed command under urging and just failed to last. PHIL HARRIS slipped through along the inside and closed with a late rush. TOP RAIDER was in close quarters down the backstretch and lacked a rally when clear. IRMAS JIM weakened. KENSINGTON GAL set the pace to the final turn, then tired. COUNT DID was never prominent. The others were outrun. The rider of TOP RAIDER claimed foul against BER MAR BOY, which was disallowed. GAVILAN opened a commanding lead soon after the start, held on well until straightened for the drive, then weakened. BONAVENTURE closed well from a sluggish start. PICADELIA was unable to keep up. FIESTA showed nothing. CRACK THE WHIP lacked early speed. SUNSHADE tired after racing close to the early pace. The others were never prominent. LAST LAP rushed boldly on the turn, came in entering the stretch, pinched back PINK GIN. then continued on gamely and was pressing the winner. PINK GIN broke sluggishly, was sent up on the outside of the leader on the turn, then was steered to the inside after getting caught in close quarters. PLUCKY WILLIE saved ground to no avail. The latter, in hand while kept close to the pace, rallied to press for the command and continued gamely. QUEENS TASTE forced the pace, drew into a comfortable lead in the stretch, then faltered. LONG HILL raced WINPOQ into early submission, was unable to drew clear and tired. HASH KNIFE showed nothing. NEW BOROUGH raced very wide throughout. SWING LOCK was never prominent. WINPOQ quit. GINO GRAY set the pace under stout restraint, raced wide on the final turn and had nothing left when put to pressure. IRISH CHANNEL moved rapidly along the inside to get the lead after five furlongs, then weakened. BOUNCING BABY flattened out when roused. OCEAN PLAY and BRIGHT BEACON were outrun. VENTANA broke alertly, set a rapid pace, skirted the inner rail and lasted to defeat JEANS JAY. The latter was not hustled while trailing in the early stages, came between horses in the final quarter mile and closed willingly. BIG INCH, benefited along the rail, but was unable to menace the leader. SUNNYCREST GAL passed tiring horses. LAWFUL moved in closest attendance of the pace after three furlongs, swung out on the final turn and drifted badly through the stretch.
