Bells Colorbearers Have Won In Ireland, England This Year CHURCHILL DOWNS, Louisville, Ky., May 4. — Ray Bell, California turf patron, arrived here today to witness the 1951 renewal of the Kentucky Derby. Bells red, white and blue colors have been successfully carried this year in Ireland and England. Bell purchased yearlings in the autumn sales and left them abroad to be broken and trained by Irelands leading conditioner, P. J. Pendergast. Four liave each started once, two have won at the first asking and two others ran second and third. Bell plans purchasing yearlings annually and when the youngsters prove of class he will ship them to America for racing and breeding. One of Bells two-year-olds, Windy City, is to start in a stake race at Chester, England, May 8, and will be ridden by Englands champion jockey, Gordon Richards.
