PENSON, reserved in the opening half mile, improved position from the outside, displaced NATHANIEL and was going away. The latter estab- lished a clear lead quickly, was steadied until entering the stretch and faltered slightly. MERRY RISK was forced to race wide when moving up from a slow start. HIGHQUILLO had no excuse. KAYS CHILDREN * loomed a threat on the turn and weakened. DIAMOND HEAD caught tired horses after trailing early. MUCHO t_ MAS was prominent between horses and gave way in the final quarter mile. KINGS DAISY failed to respond. THWARTED, A SCHEDULED STARTER, DEVELOPED LAMENESS DURING THE POST PARADE, WAS WITHDRAWN AND ALL WAGERS ON HIM WERE REFUNDED.
