Clyde Blake Rides Well In His First Engagement Finishes Second on Third Person As Ruxton Scores at River Downs RIVER DOWNS, California, Ohio, June 18. — River Downs of Ohio Inc., played host this afternoon to upward of 4,500 racing fans. For the first time in several days the skies remained bright throughout the warm afternoon card though a refreshing breeze cooled the crowd somewhat. An interesting item on the afternoons program came about in the third race. Clyde Blake, a native of Birmingham, Ala., was up on Mr. and Mrs. H. Millers Third Person, an aged Head Play gelding. It was the first of the lads two rides after which he will be allowed to ride as an apprentice rider. Blake finished second on Third Person to the Rainbow Stables Ruxton, who was the strong choice in the betting, and executed a well considered bit of strategy coming into the stretch to cover a great deal of ground. Blake created a favorable impression among the horsemen and officials at the track and with the proper tutelage will probably become one of the more sought after bug riders in this part of the country.
