Subahdar Carries Off Honors in Manor Purse Carries 122 Pounds in Victory Oyer Ros Clag at Delaware Park By JOE HIRSCH DELAWARE PARK, Staunton, Del., June 18. — Mrs. Walter M. Jeffords Subahdar, held smartly off the pace by Norman Cox, carried his topweight package of 122 pounds briskly through the stretch to annex the featured Manor Purse here today. The victory was the first of the year for the four-year-old Alsab gelding who returned .60. Ros Clag was second, three and a half lengths back while the favored Whiffs edged in for the minor award. Subahdar, who won his only race as a sophomore, had gone postward three times previously this season with a third in his last race a week ago as his best effort. The bay grandson of Mahmoud displayed surprising strength in the final furlong and covered the mile and a sixteenth route in 1:44%. Daly Stables Copake showed the way down the backstretch until collared by Ros Clag at the half. The Companas Stable filly led the field of five around the turn and appeared to have things her own way until Cox called on Subahdar. Held in fourth position during the early going, the Jeffords gelding began to move at the five-sixteenths pole, attended the leader, and then drew off -for the score, r , r i -
