EARLY RACING OF YOUNGSTERS IS DECRIED. "When one bears in mind that there were nearly sixty yearlings named for the four races run on New Years Day in California and New Orleans, one cannot avoid the conclusion that the murdering of the youngsters is o lie prosecuted this winter on a scale more elaborate than was ever before attempted," says the Morning Telegraph. "The situation calls for some drastic remedy. The Crescent City Jockey Club was the greatest offender on Now Years Day. There were two races at the Fair Grounds. To the comparative credit of Edward Corrigan be it known there was only one at City Park. There was one each at Oakland and Ascot Park. No doubt the presence at the Fair Grounds of Buriew. trainer for Newton Bennington, with a big bunch of juveniles bought at the Haggin sales chiefly had a deal to do with the preference slnwn to the youngsters by the Crescent City Jockey Club. Buriew is a famous butcher of young horses. He has these four of live" years put more 2-year-ohls out of business prematurely than any trainer on the American turf. Last spring he began with as liue looking a bunch of youngsters as was to be seen in all America. Before the first of September he did not have a horse of the younger brigade callable of winning an overnight .condition race."
