AUGUST BELMONT TO BE REAPPOINTED. The New York Sun states with much posltiveness that Governor Higgins has decided to reappoint August Belmont chairman of the New York State Racing Commission. This decision, it is said, is due to the requests of many influential turfmen. The Sun quotes its informant as follows, with reference to Mr. Belmont: "He has the backing of all turfmen who make a practice of racing in the east, and for that reason he Is believed to be the only man suited for the chairmanship. Racing has become a phenomenal industry in this state under the Belmont regime, and the sport at "present never occupied such a high plane. It was Belmont who took the bull by the horns last year and cut off the revenue from the bookmakers.
