LIST OF STAKES ANNOUNCED AT MEMPHIS. Montgomery Handicap to Be Renewed Meeting to Begin About April I. Memphis, Tenn., February 17. Following the announcement that the Supreme Court of this state had unanimously agreed on the unconstitutionality of the Rice-Ligou law, stakes for the spring meeting of the New Memphis Jockey Club were tonight announced by Secretary Macfarlan. The Montgomery Handicap and all other fixtures are to be renewed. Entries will close March 5. The list is: Gaston Hotel Stakes, for two-year-olds, colts and geldings, ,000 added; 1-2 mile. Ardelle Stakes, for two-year-olds, fillies, ,000 added; 1-2 mile. Memphis Stakes, for two-year-olds, 1,200 added; 5-8 mile. Hotel Gayoso Stakes, for three-year-olds, ,000 added; 1 mile. Montgomery Handicap, for three-year-olds and over, ,500 added; 1 1-1G miles. Peabody Hotel Handicap, for three-year-olds and over, ,000 added: 1 1-8 miles. Tennessee Brewing Company Selling Stakes, ,000 added; 7-8 mile. The Tennessee Derby, ,000 added, and Tennessee Oaks, 2,000 added, closed a year ago. There will be three jumping races each week, according to Secretary Maefarlans announcement, provided there are enough timber toppers iu attendance to justify it. Telegrams congratulating officials of the local club on the success of their efforts to save racing from the so called reform elements attacks, poured in today from almost every point. Horsemen In San Francisco, Hot Springs, Lexington, New Orleans and Los Angeles sent messages indicating that they will race here. Although the dates have not been sanctioned by the Western Jockey Club, it is expected that racing will Iegin here the first week in April.
